The bonsai tree offers a unique history. Growing bonsai trees has been done for centuries to create ornamental gardens, and was commonly seen as a pastime for the wealthy. Nowadays, if a gardening hobbyist is going to try to learn how to take care of bonsai trees, then they should definitely take the time to learn more about their diverse and rich history, as well as the specific skills needed to grow a bonsai tree.

Close to 2000 years ago, during the Han Dynasty, the history of the Chinese bonsai tree began. At that time, the pastime was generally accepted as one for the wealthy. An early bonsai garden focused mostly on the images that could be created out of the bark from the trees. These images would consist of birds, dragons, and even animals. Today, both the bark transformations and the foliage shaping are seen as being equally unique.

Over many years, Japan and China began to merge some aspects of their unique cultures together and the bonsai tree was one of the many things that was incorporated into the highly cultured country of Japan. At first, only the Buddhist monks used this art form, yet eventually, the aristocracy took up the bonsai art and it became a status symbol for a long time. After this time and for many, many years afterwards, the art of bonsai lay predominantly within the Japanese culture. As time passed and Japan began to open up its doors to other countries, bonsai art became highly sought after in western cultures for its serenity and beauty.

The bonsai tree is a unique art form that has a rich history and garden hobbyists all over the world now enjoy cultivating bonsai trees. Bonsai art was seen for so long as only being accessible to the rich or religious, but thanks to today’s technology, everyone from a lowly-paid worker to Warren Buffet can enjoy growing bonsais. If you want to bring a unique aspect of the past into today’s world, then bonsai trees offer a way for that to occur. Being an artist has never been easier or as exciting as it is today.
