Advice On Making Your New House Seem Homey

If you have just bought a new house or start renting a new apartment, most people immediately start decorating to make it feel lived in. A house with empty walls can be very unsettling and feel like it is not your own. One easy way to start making it feel like home is to start putting pictures of the people you love up. If you are decorating in a more classic sense, you could pay a portrait artist to paint a picture of your family. A portrait painting can complete the traditional décor of a room. Though pictures are one method, there numerous ways to make your new house your home.

One of the first things to do that can make a house feel lived in is to paint the walls and move in the furniture. If all the walls are painted white, it can be quite unsettling for some. Imparting your personality to the house is easy with a few coats of paint. If you are renting an apartment, before painting the walls it is important to read your lease or check with your landlord to make sure you are allowed to paint. Most likely you will be required to paint the walls back when your lease is up.

Little home accessories can really make a living space feel more welcoming. A few color coordinated area rugs can really complete a room. An easy fix to the house feeling empty is putting up window treatments. If this is your first house, it may be necessary to also purchase new bedding that matches the décor of your master bedroom.

As trivial as it may seem, the pleasant scents in a house can be a large part in whether or not a house feels like home. The house can feel very lived in just by placing a few scented candles around. However, if you have small children or pets, having an open flame burning may not be such a wise idea. There are now a number of different decorative methods of creating pleasant aromas within the home. They now sell scented oils that are packaged in a lighted box that gives the appearance of a candle without the stress of a flame or messy wax.

There are lots of ways to cut back on the spending that comes along with decorating. To simplify and cut down on spending, you could go to a craft store and buy patterns and material. This will allow you to make throw pillows and curtains to match your choice of décor without having to search multiple stores or spend a lot of money. {Also, items like book ends or lamps, which help achieve that homey feeling, can be found at flea markets or thrift stores|Thrift stores or flea markets might be a good place to find lamps, book ends, or other odds and ends.. A fun activity for right after you move in is to go to some flea markets to try to find any décor items you might need.
