Garden Tips
Reasons why more farmers are getting into organic vegetable gardening are that it is cost effective and almost the same yield of crops is able to be produced. Before you can do this at home, the principles of organic vegetable gardening must be understood. It is forbidden to use fertilizers, nutrients or pesticides in organic vegetable gardening. You will be using two things to make it all work namely sunlight and water so nature is your partner here. You have to find the ideal area and provide adequate drainage because we don’t produce these ourselves.
To help the crops grow, mix together leftover food, chipped bark, garden compost, leaf moulds and manure using a compost heap and then spread it throughout your garden so you do not rely solely on sunlight and water. You shouldn’t come over all peculiar when thinking about manure, it is sold in stores so you don’t have to scoop this from the toilet, and, if you keep Chickens it is great to let them roam around in the garden. You could use dead animals or meat products as others do but these cannot be put in the soil. Leave them in the bin for a fortnight and maggots will soon appear which is what you use to help fertilize your garden.
The earthworm digs deep into the ground and aerates the soil bringing various minerals to the surface and providing better drainage, making it is another helpful creature. The casting this long pink colored creature leaves behind is five times as rich in nitrogen phosphorous and potassium, according to experts. You can find this at nearly all gardening stores or garden centers.
Organic gardening is challenging since you have to deal with unwanted guests - some of these pests include army worms, crickets, gypsy moth caterpillars, slugs and squash bugs. The toad is known to eat almost every type of insect despite the fact that at one time people used fertilizer to kill them so it is the best weapon in an organic setting. Get a bird if you have caterpillars or spiders lurking in the garden because this is not in the toad’s diet.
A toad or a bird may come in to your home as long as you set the ideal environment for them so you don’t have to buy one from the pet store. If you can put up a bird house or a small pond, within days, you will have some new occupants protecting your garden. Insect killers such as the preying mantis and the ladybug, mark their territory and eat anything that dares enter their domain so they will do the job.
For example, the rosemary, sage or thyme is an effective deterrent against butterflies whereas marigolds are effective against nematodes. The best way to keep the soil fertile is crop rotation, despite all the flowers and creatures that nature has to offer. Alternate between the kind of vegetable planted for this season and another then return to the first after this one is harvested. Practice is all that is required to harvest the vegetables you have planted weeks ago as the principles behind organic gardening are very simple.
