Prehistoric Gardens a Must for Oregon Tourism
Begin your Oregon tourism exploration at the Prehistoric Gardens in Orford. Here you will see the animals that lived thousands of years ago recreated for your pleasure. The vibrant colors, the full size and the history behind their creation all make for an interesting tour. Not only will the kids enjoy it but the adults will too. Don’t worry about not being able to pronounce the names; the sculpture put plaques beside each one with the name sounded out so you can know how to say it in the true scientific form!
The Prehistoric Garden is located in the rainforest of the area. Here they receive an average of 39 inches of rain annually. With that much rain the forest is filled with moss, huge ferns and black soil that isn’t good for much of anything except for what is now growing there. For 40 years the sculpture worked to make this a destination that you will want to see.
Mr. E.V. Nelson made each one to size. He took the measurements from fossils and skeletons to assure the accuracy of each one. He painted them vibrant colors to keep the children from being frightened by the sheer size of the animals. Take your camera and get your picture taken beside the one that you believe will make you look your best!
