The Advantages of A Granite Countertop

There are so many advantages to having a granite countertop; it’s hard to list them all. The first advantage, of course, is that the material is so readily available. Given the composition of the earth, it’s not very hard to find granite, so you’ll never lack for material if you want a countertop of this stone. Another special feature is the multitude of granite colors. There is your basic black, grey or light colors, but you’ll also find greens, pinks, blues and any color in between. And when you add the marbling, or the swirls, specks and veins of highlight colors, every piece of granite is unique and every piece will add drama to your kitchen or bathroom.

But one of the most important advantages of having a granite countertop is the durability of the material. Like all kitchen surfaces, countertops get a lot of use. But it’s so hard that even if you want to chop things on it, it will be difficult to scratch. (There’s a reason, after all, why granite saws are tipped with diamonds). You can set hot items on the surface of granite, things like frying pans, griddles or toaster ovens, and it won’t burn. In bathroom planning, natural granite can be used for vanity countertops, showers and flooring, all of which will compliment your room design.

But another thing you’ll love about a granite countertop is how sanitary it is. It doesn’t harbor bacteria, so having a countertop of this material will be something of a dream come true, when it comes to the sanitizing of your kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Cleaning granite countertops is very easy, and if the stone is well sealed and polished, it’s highly resistant to staining.

One big advantage for families is that a granite countertop is very kid-friendly, and will survive virtually all the rough usage a bunch of active, growing children can dish out. Meanwhile, mom and dad might be interested in the final advantage, which is increasing the property value of the home. In fact, given the many colors, the durability of the stone and its resistance to heat, staining and so on, it’s hard to put an actual value on what granite contributes to the home.
